Tips and tricks to add some style to your home

Everyone wants a stylish home. Nobody wants to come home to a drab and dreary home that looks like it hasn’t been updated in decades (unless that’s their preferred style). However, many people can’t afford to redo their entire home all at once. Or perhaps they simply can’t stand the idea of all the work being done at the same time and not having full access to their home for a while.

Which is why you may want to consider these tips and tricks for adding some style to your home. They don’t require hiring people, pulling out floorboards or spending too much cash. These are just simple ways you can bring something special to a room.

Start with the kitchen

If you love cooking, this is the best place to start. If you and your family eat in the kitchen, this is the best place to start. If your kitchen is where you sit with your friends when they visit, this is the best place. In other words, in most cases, the kitchen is the best place to begin when you want to add some style to your home. But how do you do that without re-tiling, redoing countertops or calling in a contractor?

It’s actually quite simple. Look at your appliances? How old are they? Do they look like you’d find them at a secondhand store being sold for half price? It doesn’t matter if they still function perfectly, it’s time to let them go. Open your laptop and start shopping or jump in your car and visit your local shopping centre.

Think about the colour scheme in your kitchen. If you plan on keeping those colours, buy appliances that complement them. Alternatively, metallic might be the best way to go. You don’t have to buy a brand new fridge. Small appliances that you regularly use are easy to replace. For example, you can purchase a new kettle, toaster and coffee machine.

Then move on to the living room

This is likely the space where you go to relax, either by yourself or with your family. That’s why you want it to be as attractive as possible. There are quite a few ways to add a little style to your living room. And no, it doesn’t involve buying new furniture or splurging on an expensive coffee table. There are many small things you can do without much effort and on a tight budget.

For starters, if your couches are old and it’s starting to show, you can easily cover them with throw blankets. Not only will these cover anything you don’t want seen, but they’re also handy to have around during the cold winter nights. You can get them in a variety of colours and patterns to suit the decor of the room.

Next up, you have scatter cushions. You can really go all out with these. If the room is looking bland, choose bold colours and interesting textures. You can either choose to match all the cushions or mix them up with different prints and designs. For an average two-seater couch, three cushions will do the trick, but feel free to add more as you can move them around as you see fit.

You may also be interested in purchasing some coffee table books. These are not only great for decoration, but for entertainment as well. Whether you’re interested in photography or plant life, there are coffee table books out there to suit everyone’s taste.

Of course, you shouldn’t ignore the bathroom

People who visit your house won’t only see your kitchen and your living room, they’ll most likely also make use of the guest bathroom. Which is why it’s important you make sure it’s always looking its best. And that doesn’t only mean keeping it clean and tidy.

A great place to start when it comes to bathrooms is, of course, with bathroom sets. Matching hand towels, bath mats, shower curtains and even drapes or curtains will really bring the room together. You can choose bright colours and patterns for a cheerful look or go for something darker if the lighting is good to make a bolder statement.

Instead of having a soap dish you constantly have to clean, why not go with a liquid soap dispenser and hand cream set? That’s something your guests will really appreciate.

These are just a few of the simple ways you can add some style to your home without too much time or effort. You can buy most of these things online and have them delivered without needing to leave your home. However, if you enjoy a little retail therapy, then this is the perfect opportunity to indulge.
