How to bring tranquility into your bathroom

Have you considered turning your bathroom into an at-home spa but it seemed too indulgent or expensive? The truth is that turning your bathroom into a spa won’t cost you an arm and a leg. In fact, you won’t even need to renovate. All it takes is a relaxing atmosphere with all the trimmings.

Bring warmth with faux wood tiles

It’s not ideal to use wooden materials in damp areas as the water can break down the wood. Fortunately, a faux wood tile can solve this problem. This faux wood is in fact a ceramic or porcelain tile that mimics the natural texture of wood. Wood is known to bring about a warm feeling and is therefore a viable alternative that not only looks like wood, but has a high resistance to water.

Allow yourself a long, hot soak in the tub

Is your bathroom space too small for a bigger tub? If that’s the case, then consider buying a deeper bathtub. Manufacturers are producing a wider range of tubs that are no longer than 1.5 metres, but are deep enough to submerge your entire body under water. There’s something about a traditional Japanese soaking tub that provides a tranquil atmosphere. By having your very own deep tub, you can include that same tranquility in the privacy of your own bathroom.

Incorporate earthy tones

Earthy tones are inspired by nature. Colours like green, grey and brown all bring about an organic feel to your bathroom. The calming effect of these colours can do wonders for your mood. Soothe your senses by painting your walls a neutral colour and, in addition, incorporate soft colours when choosing your bathroom sets. There’ll be an instant mood change in your surroundings by simply changing the colour pallette.

Install dimming lights

Consider installing lights that have dimming controls as the softer lighting creates more ambience and will provide you with a sensual atmosphere. These will allow you to dim down the lights or brighten up the space whenever you need to.

A rejuvenating fragrance

Your at-home spa won’t be complete without aromatherapy oils and scents. Scents can boost one’s mood and health. Try using a peppermint-scented soap for early mornings as it’s the easiest way to wake up your mind and start fresh. For a good night’s sleep, lathering up with lavender or jasmine scented body washes, lotions or oils will do wonders for your psyche. In addition, put up candles and diffusers to enhance the mood.
