There’s just something about a night’s sleep in a hotel room. It might be the promise of a buffet breakfast. It could be the fun of exploring a new town. Or it might just be the satisfaction of knowing you won’t have to clean or make the bed.

It’s no secret that getting enough sleep is beneficial to every aspect of our lives. Sleep helps you to learn, it prevents obesity, it manages stress and it helps you to make better choices. Basically, sleeping well could fix a number of different maladies you might be facing. And getting a good night’s sleep is within your reach if you get that hotel room feeling at home. Here are a few hotel essentials you can add to your bedroom.

Upgrade your bedding

What’s the one thing that comes to mind when you’re daydreaming about staying in a hotel? The bedding sets. Fluffy, white, comfortable and comforting, what’s not to love? What if you could go to bed each night and wake up each morning feeling that way? By upgrading your bedding, you could. Perhaps the most simple and important thing you can do to improve your sleeping experience would be to change your bedding.

Buy a new mattress

The mattresses in hotel rooms are generally huge. They’re often the kind of mattresses that you can really stretch out in. Compared to your tiny double bed, these are probably at least a queen- or even a king-size. Just having that much space will immediately make sleeping feel that much more luxurious. If you’re able to, invest in the most comfortable and biggest mattress you can find. You’ll feel like you’re waking up in a holiday destination daily.

Invest in a headboard

Your bed will look a million times better after you’ve added a headboard. It’s a finishing touch to the bed, acts as a focal point in your bedroom and even reveals a little bit about you. This is especially true if you make the headboard yourself, a completely doable weekend DIY activity.

Add more pillows

Most of us are only sleeping with one or two pillows. But there’s just something about a pile of pillows on your bed that screams luxurious comfort. With a selection of pillows in various sizes and shapes, you’re giving yourself the ultimate in luxury – choice. You’ll have the right pillow for every moment, whether you’re sleeping, reading or lounging. Five on each side of the bed is considered the ultimate in luxury. And you know they’re going to look fabulous when they’re perfectly arranged.

Style your bedside table

A major plus of every hotel bedside table is that they tend to come fully stocked with everything you’ll need. Reading lamp and sufficient plugs, yes. Glass of water, check. Fresh flowers and a bedtime chocolate, definitely. Fill your bedside table with all of the essentials you’ll want to reach for during the night and you’ll never want to leave the comfort of your bed.

Somewhere to sit

A bench at the foot of the bed where you can put on your shoes, a chair in the corner of the room where you can read a book or a chaise longue where you can curl up. Sitting on the bed is never a good idea. Rather, give yourself another option.

A collection of things you love

Now this is one thing you won’t find in a hotel room. And that’s why it’s important to have in your bedroom. There are some things you yearn for while travelling, the things that make you feel at home. These are the things that put a smile on your face after a long day. They could be family heirlooms, goods you’ve collected during your travels or gifts from family and friends. Cluster these together and you’ll smile every time they catch your eye.

Achieving the hotel room feeling in your own home is possible for everyone. All you need are some essentials and accessories and you’ll wake up daily feeling like you’re on holiday.
