Launched in 2007 as an opportunity to celebrate the quality of design produced in Australia and uncover innovative ways for future urban lighting, Vivid Sydney is the biggest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, held every evening once darkness falls from 27 May – 13 June 2011.
From large-scale light installations and projections through to music performances, ideas, creative summits and beyond, Vivid Sydney doesn’t fail to illuminate an already geographically blessed city into something quite magical.
Quite simply Sydney and many of its icons, such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, are transformed into a breathtaking, living canvas. This year French projection artists Superbien accepted a commission from the Vivid curator, Stephen Pavlovic, to light the facade of the Opera House for this year’s festival.
The images we’ve chosen focus purely on the Sydney Opera House over the last few years of Vivid to uniquely demonstrate how one building can morph so magnificently. Just imagine such a spectacle transforming an entire city!
