Toni Collette selling her bush hideway

Toni Collette, star of Muriel’s Wedding and Sixth Sense, has listed her luxurious country hideaway near Berry, citing reasons of her lack of opportunity to spend time there.

The 5 bedroom property, which is located 2 hours to the South of Sydney and was where she married Dave Galafassi in 2003, has been listed for just under $2 million.

 

The eco-friendly house, set amongst 10 hectares of rainforest was purchased in 2002 for $890,000 half-finished.  It includes an L-shaped sitting area, a mezzanine loft built from recycled timber, and a detached, acoustic timber-lined recording studio.

Behind automatic security gates sculpted by a local blacksmith, there is a level parcel of land that has a lawn area, timber play equipment and a large house painted khaki.

The kitchen has recycled antique cabinets with brightly coloured jewelled handles and a large Smeg stove.

The detached studio has an acoustic timber-lined room, an L-shaped sitting area, and mezzanine loft built from recycled timber.

With high clerestory windows, the house has been designed along passive-solar principles to flood the open-plan living room with natural light and take advantage of natural ventilation. There are ceiling fans for cooling and a large combustion fireplace for heat.

All five bedrooms are off the central living zone. Some have sliding walls to create larger, flexible rooms.

A Bose sound system is wired throughout the house, so you can hear music from the large deck that has filtered views of Seven Mile Beach. There is also DA-approval to build a plunge and lap pool.

Colette and Galafassi currently live in Los Angeles, with their four-month old daughter, Sage.  In addition, the married couple also own a mansion in the Sydney suburb of Bellevue Hill, worth just over $4.5 million.
