The first of six villas planned for the Platinum Estates development by Cosmopolitan Estates in the Son Vida Community on the island of Mallorca (one of the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain) is the stunning, and rather retro Casa Son Vida.
At 8500 square foot, it is in fact not new, but a renovation of a 1960’s Mediterranean-style villa that has been transformed into something resembling a villa from a Baby Boomer-TV show set in Space (think Lost in Space versus a ride at Disney’s EPCOT Center).
Whether you think it’s bold or somewhat garish, a design-masterpiece or overtly kitsch, you certainly cannot miss it and it’s endless customisation, and no doubt that’s what the collaborating team, prestige residential developer Cosmopolitan Estates, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, and award-winning LA, Switzerland and Hong Kong-based tecARCHITECTURE intended.
It is after all a showpiece. Of the six villas of Platinum Estates, this is the only one that won’t be for sale, but is an example of just what can be achieved.
