The Plumen 001 Light Bulb Wins Design of the Year Award 2011

It’s often the most simplest of things that are the most eye-catching, or in the case of the Plumen 001 light bulb: award-winning, achieving the Brit Insurance Design of the Year Award 2011.

Created by design brand Hulger and designed by Samuel Wilkinson, the sculptural CFL bulb is described by its creator as “the world’s first designer low-energy light bulb”.

The Plumen 001 is an imaginatively sculpted energy saving bulb, with an attractive silhouette and organic form, and the award clearly shows that normal items dismissed as unattractive or dull can be quite the opposite when creativity and imagination meet.

Low-energy light bulbs have never been regarded as a stylish product, the Plumen 001 addresses this by creating an aesthetic bulb which works just like any low-energy bulb. By bending the glass tubes of a light bulb, the product uses 80% less energy and lasts eight times longer than an incandescent bulb. Compared with the standard fluorescent light, Plumen 001 is a beautiful light bulb designed to be seen.
