The Stylish Eco-Toilet
March 4, 2010 by Marquette Turner · View Comments
Eco-minded bathroom fixtures are becoming increasingly available, but they still tend to focus more on function than on form. One notable exception is W+W, a combined toilet and sink from Spanish brand Roca that combines compact style with green-minded thinking.
W+W is a single, L-shaped unit in which the sink and toilet are integrated entirely.
Wastewater from the sink is used to fill the toilet’s cistern, thus saving as much as 25 percent of the water that would normally be used. An automatic cleaning system prevents bad odors and bacteria, while a specialized tap controls the water’s temperature and flow for maximum energy savings.
Developed by the Roca Innovation Lab and designed by Gabriele and Oscar Buratti, the W+W costsEUR 2,731.

Chairs can be both functional and stylish. Less often are they both.
The Wallfa is both a wall and a sofa, divided by a stretchy membrane separating the space in between to provide a very comfortable sitting area that allows two people to interact from both sides of the wall, while seated.
At 190cm tall, it is 26cm long and 100cm wide the 150kg multi-purpose piece of furniture can also be used as double sided vertical hammock to relax in.
It is priced at $5,500 USD and designed by Jordi Canudas.

As luxury real estate agents, the Marquette Turner Luxury Homes team frequently come across some stunning modern furniture.
Tord Boontje, Matali Crasset and Wales & Wales have collaborated with over 50 master ateliers and artisans to create an eye-catching collection of contemporary objects and furniture, such as the amazing wardrobe below.
For instance, on this one piece, there are 616 hand-cut and hand-painted copper leaves draped over an iron frame. The doors seamlessly glide open with a simple touch, and inside is nothing less than a private sanctuary. Inside these wardrobe doors lies your very own sanctuary, complete with a cast bronze tree whereupon you can drape your clothes upon the branches.

Furniture: Inflatable Modern Chesterfield Armchairs
July 28, 2009 by simon · View Comments
Imagine taking your armchair with you to relax in the greatest comfort wherever you go.
Well, you can without requiring broad shoulders a metre wide or a removalist to follow you around, thanks to the Blofield creation by Jeroen Van de Kant.
You can inflate and deflate in just five minutes, and the chair can fit in just a small holdall. The only catch being that you require an electrical power supply for the pump – a mere hurdle that can easily be overcome.

Interior Design: Pop Art Modern Furniture
July 21, 2009 by simon · View Comments
Pop Art has taken many infamous forms over the years, with perhaps Andy Warhol’s colorful images of Marilyn Monroe having really stood the test of time.
Now the French studio Téo Jasmin has used classic imagery and placed them onto textiles for home furniture, such as lampshades, wallpaper, chairs, pillow cases and more. On one hand the imagery is classically pop, and the other the furniture pieces are classic and timeless. This makes for eye-popping results.

The Midas Touch: Gold Covered Living Room Furniture
November 8, 2008 by Marquette Turner · View Comments
Designer Philip Plein clearly has the Midas Touch. He has created a living room set using several forms of gold – such as gold-plating, solid gold, or simply a manufactured shade. Plein’s set comprises of a royal nest with a sofa, a coffee table, an arm chair, a side table, lampshades, and cushions.
Whether it spells class and taste I’m not quite sure, but it’s certainly dazzling.

The Hover Chair: Float On Cloud Nine
November 2, 2008 by Marquette Turner · View Comments
TThe Hover Chair could be something straight out of Star Wars.
In fact, Keith Dixon, the creator of this lounger states that his inspiration came from the anti-gravity Land Speeder vehicles in the Star Wars films. Using powerful magnets to float in the air floating is indeed possible, but maybe the $9620 price tag may bring some back to Earth.
