We met Britney!
It’s amazing how just one message can change your life. It’s as simple as sending an email, making a call, answering a call, writing a handwritten note, knocking on a door or saying hello to someone as you walk past them. It’s easy to do nothing – in some ways it’s easier to put your head down and go on with what you are doing and keep thinking of what you are about to do or who you might be doing it with.
When it comes to meeting new people or experiencing new things, avoidance is easier than meeting something head on. It is really hard for most people to write a personal message to someone, with a note of admiration – they might not respond and will they really care anyway? To take it one step further, imagine writing a note to someone and also ask for a job? Well Britney did just that!
I have had a lot of fun over the last few months with Facebook and Twitter when I have met up with Britney. Simply writing – “Michael is having lunch with Britney” has caused a huge stir, with friends asking if it was Britney Spears? I have been as tongue in cheek as possible when answering and have usually just said that “Britney has made me lose control” – in reference to a song by Britney Spears.
The reality is that I received an email from a very special young lady in September 2008. She happened to be Canadian and wanted to pre-empt her move to Australia and wanted to work with Marquette Turner Luxury Homes – she had admired our work from afar and I was touched by her email.
We agreed to meet in New York City in October 2008 when Simon Turner and I attended the International Luxury Real Estate Awards. We were nominated and also won which blew our minds – it’s the stuff that dreams are made of.
We met Britney for lunch in the US – actually her name is spelt Brittany and her last name is “West” not “Spears”. She doesn’t have children and she was never married to Kevin Federline, yet she blew our minds and she is now in Sydney, preparing to work with us.
The point of the story is you are never sure what a day will bring, who you might meet or what influence it may ultimately have on your life. I have met someone because she took the time and made the effort to contact me and I am thrilled. You just never know what exciting thing might happen tomorrow – something that you never gave a thought to and our very own Brittany is now in Sydney!
Brittany is also documenting her journey in “A Canadian Down Under“.
