Virtual reality is, well, old news.
You may have read that Augmented reality is the new thing and, if you haven’t, I’ll explain briefly. Augmented reality blurs the line between what’s real and what’s computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and smell. It’s much closer to reality than virtual reality. Augmented reality adds graphics, sounds and feedback to the natural world. If you’re walking down the street using either smart phones (such as an iPhone) or soon, smart-glasses, informative graphics will appear in your field of view, and audio may also coincide with whatever you see. These enhancements will be refreshed continually to reflect the movements of your head.
I recently came across an iPhone application that, whilst currently only usable in the United States, shows the power of augmented reality and how many different uses there are for it.
Quite simply, you look through your phone and instantly discover which homes near you are for sale (or in fact have recently sold). You can instantly view details of any home including the asking (or sold) price, photos, distance from you, etc . Quite remarkable and, even better, it’s free.
