Gambia, the West African country and in fact the smallest on mainland Africa, plans to continue its role as an African example-setter with the new University of Gambia, a clever creation by Norweigan design firm Snøhetta, will unite the three current campuses into a single centre catering for 15,000 students.

Using traditional Gambian cultural and architectural designs and methods incorporated with Western techniques, the development will also be environmentally friendly, with a waste management centre, water harvesting, and a solar park for generating energy.

Gambia, since separation from Britain, has enjoyed relative political stability and is agriculturally rich.
