Located in Xi’an City, China, The Flowing Gardens is the vision of London-based Plasma Studio’s.
Construction will commence this year ready to be completed for the International Horticultural Fair in 2011.
The competition required the redevelopment of a large area of land that acts as a ‘synthesis of horticulture and technology where landscape and architecture converge at a sustainable and integral vision’.
Ok, so what does that mean really? Well, the massive proposal is comprised of a 5000 sqm exhibition hall, a 4000 sqm greenhouse and a 3500 sqm gate building, all situated within the 37 hectares landscape.
The theme of the concept is an “estuary” whereby the circulation flow begins as a single stream, and then broadens, branching out to form the borders of garden spaces. Flow and circulation where inherent themes in the building designs also.
