Despite a few political issues over the past few years, Fiji remains a great destination to travel and live.  In this article Christine Watson gives a lowdown on some facts of the country, some of the many positives and how you can go about living there:

Fiji is strategically located in the heart of the South Pacific and is made up of 322 islands, the two most significant islands being Vanua Levu and Viti Levu. Suva is the capital of Fiji and is one of the two cities in Fiji, the other, Lautoka City. Both are located on the island of Viti Levu.

Boasting 18,333 sq km of pristine beauty, Fiji is a nature lover’s delight. At the crossroads of the Pacific, Fiji is the exotic melting pot of cultures of Fijian, Indian, Chinese, South Sea Islanders and European settlers with a population of 800,000 and English being the official language. With an average temperature of 30 degrees C (80 F), Fiji is 3 hours from Auckland, 4 hours from Sydney, 9 hours from Tokyo and 14 hours from Los Angeles.

Immigration permits are available, depending on requirements. Permits range from investor-permits to work-permits or a simple permit to enter and reside, for example for a retiree wanting to live in Fiji without working.

Freehold or land tenure is via Torrens title land-registration system with the title guaranteed constitutionally by the State.

Fiji offers a cost-competitive location for investors intending to set up offshore operations for the manufacture of advanced technological products for regional and international markets. Fiji has become an expert driven economy spurred on by high technology, knowledge based and capital intensive industries.

There are multiple opportunities in the traditional economic sectors as well as in the island’s rapidly emerging sectors like ICT and the integrated resort development . Fiji has a long and positive track record in attracting investors from all over the world, many of whom have re0-invested in multiple projects and are still operating in Fiji.

Resting on a broad based and resilient economy, the country is poised for further growth as it sets out to become the major business hub in this region of the world.
