Create Some Winter Curb Appeal for Your Edmonton Real Estate Listing

Listing a home in the winter can be a tough sell – literally. Why? It’s hard to get compelling photos that will draw potential buyers to your home when your home and property are mired in snow. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to give your home serious curb appeal, both in person and in your listing photos, even in the depths of winter.

Add some colour

Winter is a dreary, grey season for much of the time. There’s fewer hours of daylight, everything is covered in snow and slush. To combat that add splashes of colour such as green and purple. Late-fall and early-winter plants feature green and purple foliage, so they are great choices for planting outside your home in preparation for a winter listing.

Add a festive touch

It’s the holidays! Why not take that opportunity to add a little festive flair to your home? We’re not talking about things like illuminated reindeer or inflatable Santa Clauses on your lawn. Instead, fill heavy outdoor urns with seasonal foliage and maybe a few outdoor Christmas bulbs or a small, tasteful string of white twinkle lights.

Light it up

Because there are fewer daylight hours in the wintertime, it can be challenging for visitors to your home to see the property well if they visit during the late afternoon or evening. That can also make navigating the property safely a challenge. To remedy that and make your home look more inviting, be sure that any footpaths are effectively lit (try solar lights) and that the entryway to your home is well-lit and inviting. In addition, when it comes to taking photos for your listing in the winter, if you are taking the photos in dim light, turn on as many interior lights as you can. The light will reflect off of the snow and create a warm glow in the photos.

Clear a path

Finally, it’s very important that you ensure that your home is safe for your visitors. If you are in Edmonton, Alberta in Canada create a compelling listing with a site such as: edmontonrealestatehome.com to impress potential buyers right at the door. Clear the footpath of snow, provide a mat on which they can wipe their feet, etc. The last thing you want is for a potential buyer to slip and fall on your property!

Create a cozy interior

Make your home a welcome respite from the cold, both in terms of the photos for your listing and in preparation for visitations. Turn on your fireplace, place a cozy blanket over your couch, drape a warm throw over your bed, etc. Anything you can do to make your home feel cozy and welcoming during the winter, the better.

Listing your home in the winter poses some unique challenges, but it’s definitely possible to create the kind of experience that makes visitors to your home glad they braved the wrath of Old Man Winter to come see your home. And that will make them much more likely to want to buy it, too!
