The Competition Between Neighbours Is On!
On a warm balmy evening, there is no better way to keep children amused than to drive the suburban streets of Sydney and look at homes and gardens that are decorated in the “True Christmas Spirit”. There are many Santas waving, Reindeers pulling sleds, Big Red Bags Full of Gifts, and lights twinkling everywhere.
Some home owners plan up to a year in advance to go bigger and better than the previous year. Local Councils run competitions for the best decorated house or street. Gated communities run competitions to see who can decorate their balconies with the prettiest lights.
Ice Cream Vans, Hot Dog Carts and Drink sellers are open for business in these busy streets as crowds gather to watch the flickering Christmas lights.
