Now, almost 50 years after the death of Norma Jeane Baker, the one and only home that she ever owned is for sale.

A traditional Spanish-style colonial house located on a secluded cul-de-sac in the Los Angeles suburb of Brentwood, it was built in 1929 and was where the actress was found dead after overdosing on pills.

The living area is only 2600 square feet, although the lot is a far-better proportioned 23200 square foot, and includes a small pool and citrus groves.

Monroe paid just $90,000 USD for the house, and her monthly mortgage repayments were a tiny $320 USD per month. Even now, the house price seems exceptionally reasonable for both the location and its legend: $3.595 million USD.

Speaking of legends, a plaque by the front door states “Cursum Perficio,” Latin for “My Journey Ends Here.”

Incidentally, OJ Simpson was also an owner of the property.  Hopefully the new owner will have a rather more pleasurable life.

The Malibu Home of Mel Gibson for Sale

When someone has plenty of money to spare, then practicality gets taken to a whole new level, and reports from Britain suggest the soccer superstar, Gary Neville of Manchester United, is certainly aiming high.

He plans to build a multi-million pound luxury eco-bunker into a hillside in the heart of rural Lancashire.

The architectural images indeed suggest no-expense spared. The design is flower-like with each petal designated as a certain area: eating, entertaining, sleeping for example. Should it receive council approval, the 8,000 sq ft bunker will be built in the grounds of his existing $12.9 million USD estate.

Using the latest eco-technology, the home will feature a solar panel, a wind turbine and a ground source heat pump. Energy produced from the wind turbine would be used to power his neighboring property with any extra energy supplying the national grid, helping to reduce his family’s carbon footprint.

The Luxurious Eco-Friendly Bunker

If you have the money, however, you can have the next-best thing.

As recently reported in Britain’s Daily Telegraph, London’s 50,000 square foot Regency Terrace, which currently houses a row of seven office buildings, will be converted to a seven stuccoed mansion by property developer Marcus Cooper, making it London’s second biggest home after the Palace.

The developer had bought the buildings at 6-10 Cambridge Terrace and 1-2 Chester Gate for £23.7m in 2007 but hopes to sell the completed ultra-luxurious residence for £100 million. Clearly, Britain’s property problems do not involve everyone!

The super-mansion will consist of 10 huge bedroom suites, several reception rooms and a basement leisure complex including a cinema, gym and swimming pool.

Additionally, there’ll be a 40-ft rooftop garden, complete with a sliding ceiling overlooking Regent’s Park which will be built into the eaves.

The development will be inclusive of two additional staff houses.

London’s current second biggest residence is also a Marcus Cooper redevelopment project, Witanhurst House.

The Next Best Thing to Buckingham Palace

Despite passing away in August 2009 at the age of 77, Senator Kennedy has again been in the news recently, not just because the battle for his Senate seat in Massachusetts has been completed (and won by Scott Brown, a Republican that shares a number of similarities with the his predecessor) but also because his stunning mansion in Washington, DC is up for sale.

On the market for a price rumoured to be in the vicinity of $8 million, the 8,996 square foot colonial-style mansion has five bedrooms, plus 8 bathrooms.

Located in the Sheridan-Kalorama neighbourhood, “Ted” Kennedy and his wife Victoria purchased the home in 1998 for $2,775,000, and features a gym established by California’s own Arnold Schwarzenegger. No doubt a list of people whom have stepped through the front door world read like a Who’s Who of worldwide officialdom and celebrity.

Senator Edward Kennedy’s Place in Washington DC Still Available

Barely an hour seems to go by at the moment and more news of Tiger Woods’ dalliances appear in the press.

From a purely real estate point of view, a couple of stories have come to light.

The first being that Rachel Uchitel, one of the “originals”, has put her Las Vegas “groundfloor penthouse” (go figure) on the market for $1.35 million USD.

Purchased in 2006 for $820,000, the 1556 square foot apartment at Turnberry Place, has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and features a massive outdoor terrace.

The second piece of news is that Mrs Woods, Elin Nordegren, has purchased a 6 bedroom home for $2 million USD in her native country of Sweden. Located on a small, quiet island off the capital Stockholm, the house is only accessible by ferry. Sounds like the perfect place to get away from it all.

Oscar-winner and Hollywood beauty, Halle Berry has placed one of her (smaller) homes on the market.

Located on Benedict Canyon Drive in Beverly Hills, California, the two bedroom, 2 bathroom home is on the market for $5 million USD, and with its rustic-style and charm, it should have little problem in achieving a good sale.

Set on 1.33 acres that feature a gentle slope, the home was built in 1948 and has a Mediterranean look and feel, with sandstone walls, wooden floors, vaulted-beamed ceilings, antique doors and wrought iron banister.

When is someone “financially rich”? Is it measured by how many cars you won, or how many properties you have spread throughout the world? Is it measured by the circles you move in or the number of company’s boards on which you sit?

Maybe it’s all of the above, but perhaps the pinnacle is when you’re financial wealth is greater than that of countries.

Forbes lists 400 individuals that have financial wealth greater than that of some countries. Bill Gates is unsurprisingly one of them, and with his net worth of $50 billion USD he has a greater wealth than the GDP of 140 countries, which include Bolivia, Uruguay, Bolivia, El Salvador and Costa Rica.

So what about Warren Buffet? Well, he could buy North Korea, whilst Michael Bloomberg – the Mayor of New York – could purchase Zambia.

Other countries that are within the radar of these seriously rich individuals, include Barbados, Montenegro, Belize and Haiti.

The question is, what would they do with them?
