On Saturday 27 March 2010, millions of people around the world will turn their lights out at 8.30pm for an hour, for the growing phenomenon of Earth Hour. Started in Sydney in 2007 when 2.2 million people switched their lights off in support of the campaign against climate change, in 2008 the number of people around the world involved jumped to 50 million, and last year hundreds of millions of people in 4000 cities in 88 countries took part in the third Earth Hour.

The United States Department of State has announced that Philidelphia-based KieranTimberlake has won the design competition for the New American Embassy in London. The design was felt the one that best met the briefing criteria, being modern, welcoming, timeless, safe and an energy efficient embassy for the 21st century. The new building will be on the south bank of the Thames, sitting between Battersea Power Station and the MI6 building.
