5 ways to make your home a comfortable one

Your home is supposed to be a place of comfort and relaxation. You start and end your days at home, so it’s not a space you want to feel cramped in. So, how does one make their home a comfortable one?

Well, luckily, there are a variety of ways one can increase the comfortability factor of their home. You also need to consider the experience you want your guests to have when they walk into your house and spend some time within its walls. You need to make it beautiful, interesting and, above all, comfortable. Here are five ways you can make that happen.

A bed makeover

When you think “comfort”, you automatically associate it with your bed and rightly so. This is where comfort is of great importance as it’s where you regenerate and rest to find the energy for another day of work, running errands and keeping the family together.

A bed makeover is what you need to transform your sleeping chambers from ordinary to comfy and cosy. And that all starts with your duvets and comforter sets available from South African online home stores. Online stores because they’re convenient and you have the entire range of comforters in South Africa available to you. Think about down feather duvets and Egyptian cotton sheets to welcome your tired body after a busy day – heaven.

And to make your bed even more comfortable, consider adding a tasteful variety of throw cushions to accompany your pillows at the head of the bed and a throw blanket to dress the foot of the bed. The more layers there are, the more inviting your bed will be to fall onto and that’s the ultimate comfort goal.

If you have a spare or guest bedroom in the house, it’s a good idea to follow the same makeover principles but it’s not necessary to make it as grand as the master bedroom. It does, however, still need to be a comfortable bed for guests to sleep in. Or yourself for when you need to sneak away from your partner’s snoring.

Think of your feet

If you’re one of those homeowners with specially coated floors that require you and any guests to walk around the house barefoot or in socks, the least you could do is make walking around comfortable. Even if you aren’t one of those homeowners, it should always be a comfortable experience to walk on your floors.

And one way to achieve that is by having rugs adorn certain floor spaces in your house. A few popular places for rugs to be a decorative and comforting feature in your home include:

  • Under the dining room table.
  • In the living room, under the coffee table.
  • Completely or partially under the bed (just enough to warm your feet in the morning).
  • And along the passage.

Because rugs come in all textures and sizes, it’s easy to find an appropriate rug for every room. For example, fluffy rugs are perfect for the bedroom or a casual lounge.

Clear any clutter

Have you ever walked into a cluttered house and felt that you needed to restrict your movement so as not to bump anything or stand the entire time because there was nowhere else to place the books that live on the couch? Now, have you ever looked at your home and considered whether this is how your guests feel walking around your home?

You might think you’re comfortable living in your “organised chaos”, but it doesn’t make for a welcoming or comfortable home. You will be surprised at how much clutter you do actually have in your home, and you’ll be relieved at how minimalistic living can improve your quality of life.

Your guests shouldn’t have to move things out of the way in order to sit down and relax. Keep your home clutter-free and comfortable for everyone. And on that note, you should also make sure you have sufficient seating in your home to accommodate all your guests at one time. That way everyone can be comfortable.

Furniture that makes a statement

Living in a house with standard furniture and appliances isn’t a home.  When you’re decorating your home, making sure you purchase the right furniture is so important! Check out shabby chic furniture, they are one of the best in their industry.

Personalise your walls

There are a few decorative aspects that make a house a home. There needs to be personal style and sentimental items around it that transforms it into a happy home.

Family photos, vinyl quotes, paintings, clocks and décor collages on your walls are an easy and affordable way to add personality to your home. It shows your visitors the people who live here and makes them feel more comfortable about settling into a home where there are displays of love and laughter on the walls.

An element of something fresh

To top off the comfortability factor of your home, add an element of something fresh. Some flowers in the entryway and on the coffee and dining tables will do the trick. It’s always comforting to know that life is able to thrive in an environment. And, in any case, they’ll add to the décor.
