The first residential project in Asia by architectural icon, Frank Gehry, will likely set a record for the highest rents in Hong Kong.
The Opus Hong Kong is located at 53 Stubbs Road in the city’s Peak area, one of its most exclusive and expensive neighborhoods. The cost of renting one of the 6000 square foot apartments in the 12 storey, 12-unit apartment building has yet to be set, but is likely to break records.
Perched on the hills overlooking its harbor, Opus Hong Kong has the curves and undulating feel of many Gehry works, a stark contrast with Hong Kong’s angular skyline. Its twisting structure means that each floor’s perspective will be slightly different — Mr. Gehry said one of his aims was to design a building in which each home was different from the others.
Frank Gehry is one of the most renowned names in modern architecture and is the designer of the Guggenheim Bilbao and Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. His residential projects are not as high-profile, however, he recently leant his designing talent an apartment tower in New York’s Financial District, and his own Santa Monica home is well-documented in architecture circles.
The Stubbs Road designs were first unveiled in 2009 and apartments in the building are likely to be move-in ready in the second quarter of 2012.
