When one thinks of solar panels, we imagine huge, black panels that stick out like a sore thumb.
SRS Energy has come up with an ingenious invention to combat this issue. The Solé Power Tiles™ are dark blue, and the contours match the undulations of typical clay roof tiles. The Solé Power Tile™ brings the luxurious style and classic durability of clay roofing into the modern era of sustainable energy.

In partnering with tile makers US Tile, the Solé Power Tile is guaranteed to fit perfectly in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Flexible solar technology by United Solar Ovonic is embedded within each tile, allowing them to function independently of each other.

Whilst only available on the West Coast of the United States at the moment, a nationwide roll-out is planned for early 2010.
An interesting side note, the director of engineering at SRS Energy is J.D. Albert, the developer of the electronic ink technology used in Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s Reader.

How fantastic do these look and the need to have the horrid panels used for solar – a thing of the past! Well done to SRS Energy.
You are the latest victim of the blatant and massive marketing fraud perpetrated by SRS Energy. All the details, including the fake pictures and the patently false performance claims are exposed here:

Thanks for making us all aware of this. Your blog article certainly provides some very powerful evidence contradicting their claims.
Nice to see some new aesthetically pleasing tiles are finally coming out. Although this is a bit too “villa style” for us. Here in the UK there is virtually nothing to choose from style wise on the solar tile front.
Not even a basic “slate” style solar tile is available, only the huge wide ones that look like mini solar panels. Perfect situation for innovation in an open market – come on guys lets see worldwide suppliers and some alternative designs too.
This is a great blog! I would really like to keep reading your blogs. Cant wait for the next post. Good blogs are hard to find!

My parents just had their home converted to solar…but these look impressive.

Solar roof tiles are becoming more and more important to the green energy movement. They are easier to install and utilize, and look a hell of a lot better.
This is important because as of now the want of installing a solar power system is definitely in the minds of most Americans. However the price and the effort of setting up a system is a little daunting to some. As the price tag lowers and the rate of efficiency improves dramatically solar energy is looking much more alluring for the average house owner.
Are these the same one's that cost about $50/sq.ft??
There’s clearly a strong debate regarding these tiles
Shame about the colour but I expect they will fix that given a bit of time, great product, will be excited to see it become available.
Hey Julia. We think they’re pretty cool too, although there’s a bit of controversy on the web as to whether they actually exist at all. Regardless, it would be good to see them go to the market (maybe there’s an opportunity!)
