The recent passing of Professor Chris O’Brien this month after his three year battle with brain cancer, makes it timely for Marquette Turner to help in broadcasting his achievements and his cause.
Chris transformed his personal adversity into a national opportunity, using his experience to fight so much harder for cancer patients and their families.
His vision – “Lifehouse” – will be located at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney and is a world-class cancer treatment and research facility providing integrated care to patients and carers. A centre of excellence, Lifehouse at RPA will integrate clinical care, research and education creating opportunities for innovative discoveries, compassionate holistic care and better outcomes for patients.
Creating Australia’s largest integrated cancer care facility, Lifehouse at RPA, the new Sydney Cancer Centre, will combine all facets of clinical care; surgery, medical and radiation oncology, research wellness and support services on an in-patient and out-patient basis.
LIFEHOUSE PLANS
The $300 million new Sydney Cancer Centre will encompass state of the art clinical facilities and research with a projected 240-bed cancer treatment centre. Lifehouse at RPA will combine all facets of clinical care, including surgery, medical and radiation oncology, research as well as wellness and support services on an in-patient and outpatient basis to public and private patients alike.
Capital works are expected to commence late 2009, with the official opening scheduled in 2012. We are excited to share the first draft plans with you, to demonstrate the features and design of this innovative facility. We will continue to keep you updated on the development and construction phases over the coming months via our website and other communications to be launched later in 2009.

It is indeed an awesome building (for an awesome cause). Prof O'Brien's legacy will be very long felt.
Surviving major life illnesses is what people like him sought to ensure happened. We need to try and make health care available to the majority, regardless of where they live, what they do or what they earn.
